Lifeline is a national charity providing all Australians experiencing a personal crisis with access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services.

Somewhere in Australia there is a new call to Lifeline every minute.  This service (13 11 14) now answers around 1,800 calls each day, with around 50 calls from people at high risk of suicide.

People call Lifeline’s 24 hour crisis line 13 11 14 about: suicidal thoughts or attempts, Personal crisis, anxiety, depression, loneliness, abuse and trauma, stresses from work, family or society and self-help information for friends and family.

Lifeline’s services are now made possible through the efforts of around 1,000 staff and 11,000 volunteers, operating from over 60 locations nationwide.

UQ Sports Achievement Scholarship

A portion of Twilight Running Festival 2017 entrant proceeds will be donated to fund UQ Sports Achievement Scholarships, awarded by The University of Queensland. The scholarships aim to encourage outstanding new and continuing student-athletes to pursue tertiary study and elite-level sport concurrently.

The funding injection enables a wider pool of applicants to be supported, and allows for academic and sporting expenses incurred by recipients to be offset. Scholarship beneficiaries will also enjoy full access to UQ Sport’s first-class health and fitness facilities, which include an Olympic-standard athletics track and swimming pool, 21 tennis courts, multipurpose synthetic fields, and a three-level weights and cardio gymnasium.

uq_sas_colourUQ is accredited by the Australian Sports Commission as an Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU). Dedicated UQ Sport Academy staff, in partnership with UQ, provide academic liaison support to negotiate flexible study options for enrolment, assessment and course-related needs to assist student-athletes balance their academic and elite-level sporting commitments.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, hundreds of student-athletes have benefited from the outstanding sporting facilities and services The University of Queensland and UQ Sport has to offer – allowing recipients to perform to the best of their abilities.
